Having another reason to keep fighting usually isn't. The Malnosso making everyone their human experiment is pretty bad, but it wouldn't be worth fighting against if I didn't have something I wanted to help with.

We don't know that. They claim this is for the sake of getting everyone home.

No, it's for getting them home. They obviously know how to send us home already, they did just that a while ago, right? For a day or two, then they brought everyone back. No matter what their reason, they don't have the right to just go around screwing with people without permission anyway.

What do you think makes them different from us?

They've been here longer and decided that they've got an advantages over us by understanding the shifts and they think that makes them superior. We can come and go more easily though. They envy that ability, though they don't understand it. They want it, so they treat us like less than we are because they think they deserve it too, for having been here longer. How am I doing?

There isn't anything different from us that I can see other than that they've been here longer, they know how to use shifts, and they have no problem using other people for their sick experiments to get what they want.

Hee hee, better. But in the end, we don't know that what they want isn't what we want. Though you're right to suspect the assumption that it is what we want.

Whether it is or isn't doesn't matter as much as the way they're trying to get it being wrong for anyone but them.

You're not a fan of the ends justifying the means?

Just because a person gets what he or she wants doesn't mean that it was worth it.

You've never had something you'd go to any lengths to bring about?

A lot of lengths, but not all of them. Some goals can't be accomplished if you lessen their meaning with your actions.

And some goals you may have no choice but to do that which might seem to subvert the goal itself.

Of course, this is all simple speculation.

If you can't accomplish your goal in a way that doesn't corrupt its meaning or intent, then it's not really the original goal you were aiming for. It's you saying "good enough" because you don't think you can do it the right way.

What if in the end, it's the same goal after all? Without that risk, you'd miss the opportunity.

If your goal creates victims who can't fight back then your goal is probably something you shouldn't be doing anyway.
